We want to exhibit to show students the wide range of careers on offer in the engineering sector, and to show how exciting and dynamic the built environment is. We want to show that an understanding of maths and physics can allow for the development of engineering concepts which are around us all the time.
We are an independent firm of designers, engineers, architects, planners, consultants and technical specialists working across every aspect of today's built environment.
Founded by Sir Ove Arup in 1946, the firm has over 13,000 staff based in 92 offices across 35 countries, and is present in Africa, the Americas, Australasia, East Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Noteable projects include the Sydney Opera House, Angel of the North, the London Eye, the Shard, London Aquatics Centre, and the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing.
What will they be Exhibiting:
We will be bringing Virtual reality headsets for the students to see how we can design a building and then envision it before it is built. Whilst the students are waiting for their turn with the VR, we will run a "build the tallest tower activity" with students trying to build a tower from straws and blutac, which should be easy to clean up. The straws can be reused which makes it a sustainable activity.
